Angelus! Ima az őrangyalokhoz
Az eredetileg zongorára íródott darab a Zarándokévek sorozat harmadik kötetéből való. Liszt a ciklus darabjait 1865 és 1877 között komponálta. A zeneszerző élete 1870-től haláláig valóban csupa zarándoklás volt, mai szóhasználattal, világpolgárként váltakozva hol Budapesten, hol Weimarban, hol Rómában tartózkodott, de más városokban is töltött hosszabb-rövidebb időt.
Az Angelus! legfontosabb témája egyházi zenei jellegű, egyszerű hármashangzat dallam, amelyre a darab nagy része épül. A mű jellegzetes motívuma, amivel a darab is kezdődik, a harangszó imitálása.
Angelus! (Prayers to the Guardian Angels)
The piece, originally written for piano, was published in the third volume of the “Years of Pilgrimage” series. Liszt composed the pieces of the cycle between 1865 and 1877. After 1870 until his death, the composer’s life may be seen as one continuous pilgrimage, as the cosmopolite composer lived in Budapest, Weimar and Rome, also spending shorter and longer periods in other cities.
The main theme of Angelus! is a simple triad melody of liturgical character which lays the groundwork for most parts of the piece. The single most characteristic motif of the opus is the imitation of chiming bells, already audible in the first couple of beats.
